The goalie dilemma is really tough... Yeah, like you said, all teams by this method would just max out their goalies, but honestly, I don't even WANT a maxed out goalie. Some people will need to be crappy goalies. That's why I'm thinking along the lines of injuries or something so that you'll need to give people some CA (I think that's the blitz term for the Goalie stat: catch).
Maybe we should even set the CA cap at like, 10 or 12 or something... Assume that some of the defenders will help out in the blocking from time to time. I mean, if you think of blitz like soccer/football (or hockey or well, anything with a net), a goalie really shouldn't do that well alone... They really need the support of defenders. But then again, I have reasonably smart AI, so if a guy just powers through the defense, a CA would mean a point for him like, every time... So I take back what I said before. I think we should stick to a CA of 15 or 16. But if we can think of a way to keep goalies with fairly all-rounder stats, it'd be ideal. THINKING CAPS, PEOPLE! How do we keep people from just cranking stats into CA!?

I did have one idea, which while entirely unrealistic, might have some effect on solving the problem. The idea being that everyone on the team has a CA stat (i'm pretty sure that is what it's called in the game), excepting the goalie who is essentially an invisible player, based on the catch stats of other players. The combined total of the CA stats of other players on the team would be the goalkeeper's stat, up to a limit of say 12-15, but improving the catch stat on an individual player would be like the power or speed stats in the arena, requiring possibly 2 points to get one point of CA. Edit: Obviously, if we did go with this idea, if you applied any of the 3 bonus points to the goal stat, it would only increase the combined total of everyone's catch stats by up to 3, not each individual player's catch stat. If it improved EVERYONE's catch stat, then even 1 bonus in goal would increase the overall goal amount by 5 So, if you had a team where the 5 main members (not goalie) had stats going like this: Laguna - CA 1 Locke - CA 2 Ellone - CA 3 Julia - CA 2 Rinoa - CA 3 The combined total of their CA scores would be 11, which would be their goalie stat (before the possible adding of the 3 bonus stat pool). More I think about it, the better this idea is even if it makes no logical real-world sense (which doesn't matter in mallboro anyway ). It means goalkeepers will be different, few will reach the cap, and players who invest more points into their CA score will be weakened in other areas (especially with a 2 point cost per goal stat) will be desirable in future by teams who are suffering from an collectively low goal stat, and are in need of a boost.

Okay, totally loving that idea, BUT how about we still add in a goalie that is the one to get all these CA stats, AND we cap CA at something REALLY low like 5... Of course, this idea wouldn't necessarily pan out in the grand scheme of things since if a team leveled up and each leveled their CA stat (if we do crazy Mario RPG level-ups like I mentioned before) they'd be super goalie team of never scoring...
So I love the idea for the short-term, but I think we should continue to think on it for some longevity. But GO COUNT! Cuz that's a badass idea.

Perhaps. Maybe if we keep the levelling up low it'd help to mitigate the goal stat somewhat. Also, if things go real long term, we could start adding stuff in like having all catch stats from 5 points onwards costing 4 stats a piece, to slow down CA growth in comparison to shooting stat growth. But this is dealing with the long term here. We could certainly include goalies if done right, but once again I feel if we already know who's going to be a goalie, then that person will still pour points into their goalkeeping stat to max it out. I think for this tournament we should stick to 5 main players and an 'invisible' goalie, but work on that for the next tournament. Also, player goalies like Dr.Cid would still receive the same xp bonus as everyone else, should we start giving goal keepers the full range of stats. In future, if we do make everyone eligible for goalkeeping by having proper keepers, then I might include a concept of CA+1 to the stat of whoever's in goal, but for now lets try and keep things simple One thing - There will be reasonably high individual CA stat cap of 5, which few people will actually reach, and the combined goalkeeping stat will be capped at 15. Even if everyone's combined CA totals are 16 or over, it'll still be capped at 15, so keep that in mind. Also, as I want every player to send me their character stats in secret so as not to be influenced by the team captain, it'll be up to each person's personal discretion to strike what they feel will be a decent CA stat for their team to work from. Too little or too much? Will 1 or 2 be sufficient, or do you think your team will need that +4 CA boost? Finally, I have decided to make the CA stat cost 3 points per stat, instead of 2, just to make it even more of an investment to build up a decent keeper score. Edit: player goalies (not NPC) will provide an automatic +1 to the overal goal score, just to make having a player character in goal actually worthwhile. It's still actually less of a bonus than having them elsewhere (+1 CA = 3 points, non-goalie PCs = 5 extra points over NPCs), but it seems fair. +1 makes it worthwhile, without making it unfair to teams without player goalies.

Kuja is replacing Maduin with Zidane, so his new team line up is as follows.
The Terrans LF = Terra RF = Kuja Mid = Zidane LR = Mikoto RR = Garland (FF9) G = Maduin
EDIT: Kuja is still captain of course but Zidane will be playing FC position since he would be the fastest on the team.

Welcome back! I was greatly hoping you'd return in time for the blitz tournament. The Jesters' all-roundedness should fare much better this time round with the new rules and restrictions. Here's the current roster. I'm hoping for at least 8 teams, and at most 12. 8 seems more realistic though Also, since you've been away I haven't been able to ask regarding Blank's inclusion on Defenders of Gaia. He's welcome to play for them again, but if you want him playing for someone else then that'd be fine as well. I don't want players to feel tied down to one team, unless they want to. Or are the teams really shakin' up now?
Anyway, speaking of shakin' things up, I'm going to be doing some team-revamping myself...
The new Jesters team will have a new name and new faces. As Locke has left, Zorn is out of commission, etc., I'm going to have to do some shifting.
Chime is still manager, but I don't know if she'll play again.
Anyway, if the Defenders of Gaia are totally pliable, I'd like to send Blank to Chime's team.
My New team, currently unnamed, will consist of:
Manager: Chime
LF = Blank? RF = Frimelda Lotice (from FFTA2) Mid = Thorn ? LR = RR = (G = )
I'd be more than happy to have Faris on my team...

Haha no problem, Zidane has officially moved to Kuja's team! There are a few changes, and Blank can most certiainly play for your new team instead of the Defenders. Your character, your choice! The way things are looking, we might end up with only 8 or 9 teams, assuming Sephiroth makes a team when Amy's back, and maybe Quistis+Selphie make a team too, if that pans out. Be sure to snatch up as many players as possible! We've also yet to see Bob's new character(s), so there'll be a couple more up for grabs soon too.

He's captaining a team of current an previous Sports Emporium Employees, but isn't actually playing himself as he'd just be too damn good for everyone else! It was explained in a post awhile ago, but i'm hardly expecting you to even try and catch up on what you've missed since you've been gone. It'd take forever! Cheers though, I thought it was a pretty cool name too XD Also Bob, cheers for the heads up. I imagine i'll be making a few mistakes on the whole roster list, but i'll have everyone send a finalised list to me via PM once we've established all the teams, just to make sure everything's correct.
