May as well make Blitzball its own thread since we're kinda discussing it (some stuff was previously mentioned in The Arena). I had a thought about blitzball.... What if we did it "company softball league" style and like, your team has to be people working at your store or somebody you know (since some stores aren't big enough and some people wouldn't compete). Then you'd have teams like "The Promised Land Mages" and "The 7th Heaven Drunks" or whatever. It'd be fun to see of stores start hiring ringers... It'd also make for some interesting teams since some teams wouldn't exactly be designed to have a designated center or a good goalie or whatever. AND we have a pretty good distribution of players. Not many people work at their own store, y'know? But since players will get the +5 bonus, it'll even be incentive to have players hire other players (if we even want that incentive...). Anyway, just a thought.

Yeah that definitely sounds like a good idea, but like you said, since most stores are only 4 or 5 people the only stores that could actually have an entire team ready to play with would be like Sphere Theatre and Garment Grid provided everyone went with it.
We could also still have our original teams as well compete in a different tournament, meaning we would have two tournaments going on at the same time, one a company-based team one and one a personal team.
Also we don't have to make them a tournament, we could still do a league, provided Lieberkuhn likes the idea. It would give each of the teams more opportunity to go against other teams and allow for team growth and player growth more. Just my 2 cents though.

We could do multiple teams, sure. But I'm saying that if each company had a team, or say SPONSORED a team... So like, if your store has 4 or fewer people, then you use as many of them that want to play (say like, 3 of them feel up to playing) then have another 3 that are just added to the team that don't work at the mall, but maybe somehow know somebody at the store?
I dunno, we could go about this like we have been, too. I just like the idea of having teams like "The Group Room Perverts" or "Byblos Books Blitzers" or something. And it'd mean fewer people trying to stack teams and making it very friendly... but still hiring ringers like some companies do...

Mmm, but I'd already begun formulating my next team...I'd take on Loz, Yazzo, and Loz, and find someone else with silver hair, maybe Kuja if he wanted to join.

Haha, I see. All the silver hairs, eh? Well, we can either do two separate leagues/teams (like NS was saying) or just stick to the one-team thing... OR we can have Leagues for each store, then Tournaments for individual teams. Then just have people level-up individually, so if you need practice for your League, you just join a tourney...

Well I'm good with any idea really so long as it works.

Haha, I see. All the silver hairs, eh? Quite. Also, Loz throws a damn motorcycle with his LEGS while balancing on his hands while at 10 skillion MPH. That's a damn good swimmer. Imagine what those other chumps do!

True, but you're forgetting that they're all basically just alien-cell infused spirit larvae. Not that it matters though. Just thought I'd mention that

I am up for this company idea, I think it could be fun! Once again Jecht will abstain from playing, but perhaps he could be a manager for a sports emporium team. Wakka, Irvine and Penelo already sounds fairly well-rounded!

I like the company team idea, especially for the Eyes On group. I was thinking though. It might be more complicated, but what about a season play followed by playoffs? That might require more teams then last time though and could get too drawn out.

It probably wouldn't get too complicated to do a playoff... But we'd have to see how many teams form. It'd be nice if it was either 8 or 16. It was 8 before (not counting Jecht's team). Worked nicely.

The playoffs could maybe use the experience if we are playing from season. Also, would it be possible to award the players with an extra stat point or two based on how often the character posts? Same could apply for the arena. I know that there isn't a problem for the most part with posting right now, but when things drag, it could be used as an incentive.

I'm actually kinda hoping for the opposite. I'd rather not give benefits for posting. I know it gets slow sometimes, so I'm hoping that by having blitzball and Arena going constantly we'll have people posting more frequently. If people are struggling to think of what to write about, maybe they'll write about a match or a blitz match...
I'll consider giving an extra couple stats to those who post, but don't count on it....

Blitzball is back!
I am now going into full on blitzball tournament design, and I'd like to include as many players as possible, especially those who were not around for the previous tournament.
If no-one objects, I am going to completely wash clean everyone's stats from the last tournament, so that we can re-do everything with a more structured stat choosing system. It won't be too limiting, but the idea is that we won't have teams with one amazing striker and goalie dominating the tournament - I won't make that possible. However, I will make sure that every team has enough leeway to build their team in a particular way, by giving every single player in the team a basic stat pool of around 80, and then giving the team captain another 30 or so points to allocate to his team members as he sees fit. For example, The Defenders of Gaia are all about the defenders, so I could spend those 30 additional points on improving Steiner and Beatrix's passing and blocking stats, to give them a real edge.
However, this still would leave the problem of being able to spend those 30 extra points on just one character, for instance Kuja could have an additional 30 points in his stiking stat, which would make him unfair. Therefore, i'll include limitations on how much you can improve one particular stat, to try and keep things more balanced. Kuja can still be a godly striker, but he still won't be guaranteed a goal on each shot. These figures are all subject to change, but hopefully it gets the gist of how I'll conduct team design for the next tournament.
I am also eager to try and keep things down to 8 teams, with more player involvement in each team, but due to the increase in the amount of players now, there will probably be a lot more people wishing to be captains of their own team. If this is the case, then there'll simply be a 'bye' round implemented for seeded teams.
Finally, the last new idea I want to implement is to give players some more control over how their characters play, stats-wise, even if they are in a team captained by another player. This would be done after teams have been worked out, so that players could build their characters in a way that is suitable to their position in the team.
I think it would be interesting if Bonnie, for example, was in control of Tifa's 80 basic stats, rather than Noctis (NS) deciding the stats for her. It would assign a degree of individuality and control over each of your characters' role in a team, and what their emphasis was. Tifa would obviously be geared towards striking as that is where Noctis placed her in the team, but Bonnie could decide whether she's a high endurance, power shooter, or if she is more teamwork oriented and geared towards maintaining the offensive with high block and pass stats. If Noctis wished to pool some of his bonus stats onto Tifa, I would leave it to Noctis' discretion on how to spend those points, however.
Of course, if Bonnie did not want to make the stats up herself, then NS would have full rights to design Tifa's character - the idea is just to have the tournament focusing as much on character individuality as well as teamwork on the whole. NPCs will also be determined entirely by the team captain, but may have a marginally smaller stat pool than player characters (probably only 5 points less), just to make teams with more player characters desirable, despite captains not necessarily having complete control over all their characters.
And, thats the very big overview for you guys. Although I'm sure all of you will have many ideas on how to best conduct this tournament, this is the general format I wish to follow.
