Yeah, Basch and Gabranth will be particularly strong all-rounders, and aren't stupid either. Hell, you find Basch in isolation after 2 years of malnutrition, physical abuse, and probably torture in prison, and right away he's up for fighting alongside your team and doing a good job. Dude's tough as hell.
I'll be rooting for this team along with Zidane & Vivi from those revealed so far.

Great Rejects. Mixed teams generally make for the worst teams, but the best Rejects.

Whew. Finally got some Internet access.
I've been wondering if they'd ever use the von Ronsenburg brothers. Although you do know that Gabranth's name is actually Noah, right, Bob?

I initially had it listed as Noah, but then I decided he's more well known as Gabranth, so I'm going with that. I'm sure Basch will still call him Noah most of the time though.

This is a Rejects team that I liked too much NOT to use. Will they do well? I dunno. BUT, they're a good pair. I figure they'll have a good dynamic. They're both pretty unique characters and could easily go the comic relief route, but at the same time, both have a serious side (some more than others), not to mention their falling out in FFX-2, so there's definite tension between this father/son team. And so, the second father/son team on the race: Cid & Brother: Father/Son!

That would make sense since it's what he most knows him to be. I don't think he ever called him by his judge name, actually.

Another strong physical team in a season dominated by physicality. If Brother's blitzball stats are to be believed, then he is absurdly fast, and if Cid's biceps are to be believed, then he's one beast of a man. Together they should have no problems tackling any and all physical challenges. Add the fact that teams with high technical/mechanical skills tend to do well in AFFR, and they could be a strong underdog team. However, Brother is a bit of a dumbass, and this team has a pretty volatile relationship, so they have plenty of opportunities to fall short of the mark. Looking forward to seeing them race.

Cid & Brother should be really funny. But I don't see them last too long. Cid's a powder keg, and Brother's . . . Brother.

I think they'll do well, and survive at least 'til the second half of the whole thing. Their combined physical prowess and mechanical expertise should make up for their intellectual weakness for quite awhile, and it's only when they'll be only up against the teams who are both strong AND smart (Gabranth & Basch, Snow & Lightning - more Lightning here), that they'll stumble.

Yeah, I kiiiiinda made Mr. Chupon into a Pokemon. Deal with it.
BTW, does anybody else think it's weird that FF13-2 has renamed Chupon into Typhon? Not Typhoon, but Typhon. Why take what is presumed to be a typo (though I prefer Chupon for originality) and replace it with a typo that's CLOSER to the actual thing? Go all in or leave it the hell alone! Chu-pon! Chu-pon! Chu-pon!

And Mr. Chupon sounds just so much better. Mr. Typhon sounds like an English professor and Mr. Typhoon sounds like a failed pro-wrestler.

Drum roll please. .....I can wait. And so, here it is! The last team to race. I have always liked Laguna, but never knew how to use him on the race. A large part of it was that I played Laguna in Mallboro, so I wasn't too keen on playing him in two places. I might've tried to boot him early like with Sephiroth and Jenova, who were booted first for being the Bugging Sephiroth team that really had no place in the race (ugh, early season one...not really proud of it...). So Laguna was off my list, but now that Mallboro is basically ending, I figured I'd go for it. I also had a re-imagined version of him planned out, so I figured I'd take a somewhat-new stance on Laguna, though obviously not TOO new. It still has to be Laguna! I planned for him to race with Raine, but then I figured Raine was somewhat unknown, plus I already had another married couple, Cid and Edea. And....then I scrapped Cid/Edea in favor of Seifer/Edea, so now I have no married teams. *shrug* It's what it is. Even though I feel Ellone is kind of a blank character in FF8, I finally decided to use her and breathe some life into her. At least we get to know her as a child, so there's definitely something to work with. And so, the last team joining the race: Laguna & Ellone: Guardian/Ward!
