The results are in! Tournament is just around the corner! **********Tournament 1 Stamina********** Highwind Diamonds Shara=10 Angeal=2 Vincent=4 Wakka=10 Biggs=6 Macgregor=8 Guinness=3 Rin=7 The Mad Experiments Odine=8 Hojo=4 The Mask=7 Kuja=5 Celes=2 No. 288=10 Deling=10 Julius=5 Grizzly Bears Orlandu=7 Sazh=6 Zangan=10 Auron=4 Duncan=10 Galuf=9 Tellah=2 Unei=7 Marlboro Mayhem Brother=0 Tidus=1 Zack=10 Cloud=5 Rufus=8 Shinra=3 Ashe=6 Reks=10 Sublimely Magnificent 7 Jecht=10 Balthier=2 Seifer=5 Cid Highwind=4 Edge=10 Edgar=9 Laguna=4 Snow=8 Nightshades Blank=3 Illua=10 Fujin=7 Chime=2 Mira=6 Llednar=3 Reno=7 Desch=10 The Magic Missiles Rydia=10 Garnet=8 Rinoa=7 Aeris=6 Yuna=2 Lulu=3 Selphie=4 Vanille=10 Mercenaries Lani=10 Amarant=4 Ba'Gamnan=4 Gafgarion=10 Tseng=5 Elena=7 Rude=7 Worker 8=9 *****Results***** DMD vs TME: This game was a pretty even match. How even was it? Well, they tied! They were tied pretty much through the whole game, too. There's...not much else to say. Good job? SM7 vs NS: THIS was an intense match. How intense was it? Well, they tied! But seriously, it's a good read. NS had them for most of the game, seeing how only Laguna was doing any shooting for SM7. He countered a bunch at first, matching them point-for-point. When it all looked like the end for our brave heroes, he got a couple late-game back-to-back points to tie it up! Good job, Laguna! I think Jecht was too busy resting for the tournament to care, but that might've cost them (or maybe the Missiles) the third place finish! MAG vs MRC: Wanna know how much my new Mercenaries suck? Just...look at the score. Amarant scored ONCE in the end because I think he was just sick of this crap. A buzzer beater just to keep from being shut out. Why did the Mercenaries lose? Well, they picked the dreaded Crescent formation. I figured "hell, if ANYBODY can make something good of that formation from hell, it's these guys." Turns out, nope. Sorry, Count, but that formation is terrible. I wish I knew why it was so bad, but it is. I think whenever somebody gets a good idea for a new formation, we'll override Crescent. Sound good? Nobody should ever use it. Anyway, Crescent rant aside, good job, Magic Missiles! You did it! You kept the bronze! You ALMOST lost it to the Nightshades, but nope! Beating (see: crushing) the Mercenaries got you the bronze! GB vs MAR: As for the big game (as far as Rich and I are concerned, at least), this game was incredible! Just...not for me. Like, holy hell, Ashe has one hell of a build! She DOMINATED this game more than anybody in the history of this game. Seriously, read it. She was playing how I play Linna in FFX. Sazh gets ball, Ashe tackles and shoots. Point Ashe. Repeat. It was such a slaughter that the Marlboros stole the gold and stole the perfect season from the Bears and didn't even make it look close. Nice job, Ashe--err, Marlboros! A much-deserved gold for you guys! And a silver to the Grizzlies, who...tried their best? *shrug* That...was not their best. TOURNAMENT TIME! I'll get the bracket setup in just a moment and edit this post when it's ready. Again, it'll be single-elimination and I'll rig it so that all our teams are in opposite brackets and will only play at the very end, if at all. EDIT: Ho ho! What luck! No edit needed! All teams were in opposite brackets right from the start! Neat! challonge.com/blitztournament06

No kidding, Wyvern! Lots of critical position changes RIGHT at the end!

By the way, not sure if I mentioned it, but this season wasn't glitch-free. Le sigh. At least I don't know of this error causing anything game-changing. I forgot that if a round ended, the Shot Bonus wasn't being reset. Was kinda funny in GB vs DMD when Wakka started out the second half with a Shot Bonus. Not just a Shot Bonus, but MY Shot Bonus! The Bears worked so hard for that! But it didn't matter--they tackled his ass and destroyed the bonus anyway.

I love the game between the Marbs and Grizz. Lots of back and forth, lots of cool plays. But the player in Center needs to have great endurance so they can keep the advantage of starting with the ball.
This game was important because it not only tied the MAR and GRizz for the league as far as wins/losses, but it also gave the MARBs 11 points, bringing them 1 ahead of the Grizzlies in Overall Points Scored.
I think Ashe has always been my MVP. She's consistent.
I also noticed that the Shot Bonus wasn't being reset at half-time. But I didn't bring it up because it usually didn't matter. But it may affect the AI's decision to go straight for the goal with that heat or attempt to pass it.
I'm really excited for this tourny!

Would there be a way to include in the code an Action Priority? Like, I have a character with huge endurance and I've noticed that if there's 1 on Defense and he breaks the tackle, instead of dribbling he'll pass the ball. I was kind of hoping that this character would opt to dribble more often than pass with a build like that.
I don't know much about programming so I don't know if it would be plausible or even easy. But could there be something to include for each character where you can order their priorities? Like, say an offensive character's priority would be to shoot first pass second, or maybe a center character would opt to pass first, shoot second.
Any thoughts?

It's plausible, but further complicates an already fairly complicated process. We'd have to specify character types and we already have both Risk and Type. I could do it purely based on position, but it wouldn't change much.
I can look at the coding again, but really the characters should always be deciding dribble vs pass vs shot every "round" (movement). The fact that they always pass after dribbling might be a sign that I have something wrong in the coding, but they really should be considering the dribble. It can go on my "to check" list.

It's not important that needs immediate fixing, I just wanted to know what your thoughts were. I take stuff like that into consideration when I'm stating my players.

Let the tournament begin! First, the stamina: **********Tournament 2 Stamina********** Grizzly Bears Orlandu=4 Sazh=4 Zangan=7 Auron=10 Duncan=8 Galuf=8 Tellah=10 Unei=5 The Mad Experiments Odine=10 Hojo=1 The Mask=5 Kuja=10 Celes=0 No. 288=9 Deling=7 Julius=3 Marlboro Mayhem Brother=10 Tidus=10 Zack=7 Cloud=2 Rufus=6 Shinra=2 Ashe=4 Reks=8 Mercenaries Lani=8 Amarant=10 Ba'Gamnan=10 Gafgarion=7 Tseng=3 Elena=5 Rude=4 Worker 8=8 Nightshades Blank=1 Illua=10 Fujin=4 Chime=0 Mira=4 Llednar=2 Reno=4 Desch=10 Sublimely Magnificent 7 Jecht=7 Balthier=10 Seifer=2 Cid Highwind=2 Edge=8 Edgar=8 Laguna=10 Snow=6 The Magic Missiles Rydia=7 Garnet=6 Rinoa=4 Aeris=4 Yuna=10 Lulu=2 Selphie=10 Vanille=8 Highwind Diamonds Shara=10 Angeal=0 Vincent=1 Wakka=10 Biggs=4 Macgregor=6 Guinness=2 Rin=4 *****RESULTS***** Spoilers as always. So, who wants some WEIRD results? We have UPSETS, ladies and gentlemen! NS vs SM7: They were the 4 and 5 teams, very close in standings, so there was a very good game, as expected. And the number four team shut out the number five team. Good job, Nightshades! Better luck next time, Sub7. MAG vs DMD: THIS was a good game. Seriously. These two teams were incredibly evenly paced. And the whole game was won in the last seven seconds of the game by a buzzer beater! ...sort of. Not sure why there was a buzzer beater notification followed by ANOTHER buzzer beater after the point went in, but still! A buzzer beater in the tournament! Nice game! Unfortunately for Count, he continues his record of being knocked out of tournaments early Sorry, Count, but it sure was close! GB vs TME: Oh, but if you think that LAST game was close, TRY THIS ONE ON FOR SIZE! Holy crap, no kidding, it was down to the last friggin second! Hojo squeaked one by Galuf and won the game against the #2 team and nearly-undefeated team in the league! Nice win for the Experiments, unfortunate loss for the Bears. MAR vs MRC: And if THAT game wasn't enough upset for you, how about this game? The amazing Marlboros who took the #1 seed played against the "worst" team in the league, the Mercenaries. Know what the Mercs do? Tournament upsets. Know what they did? Yeah, that. By two points, the Mercenaries beat out the #1 seed! Holy heck we had some interesting results! Tournament is NOT shaping up how I expected (and I kinda like that!).

What a crazy game between the hard-hitting Diamonds and the agile Missiles. It was back and forth for a while, with Angeal getting pounded and pounded but still managing to fire some shots at Lu-Lu... only to have them blocked! Angeals shooting was 10 shots and 6 went in.
With 14 seconds left on the clock and a tied game, Angeal only needed 8 of those seconds to put the Diamonds ahead by 1 for the win!
In the game of MAR versus MERC, Ashe seemingly got frustrated after three our four shot attempts fall way short and are easily picked up by Worker 8 and thrown up the field. "No mistakes this time," she says and swims up for a DUNK! Putting them ahead by one at half-time.
Tseng, never to be outdone by Ashe, starts the 2nd quarter with a swift round-house kick to the net from half court with little to no resistance. The Marlboros attempt to rack up an impressive 28 shot bonus, only to have Elena strip the ball from Cloud's hands (even though he had a goalie bonus to his defense). Not a goal is scored for 3 minutes as the players seemingly just enjoy beating the snot out of each other. The game gets back on track during the last 2-minute stretch where three goals are made, but the Mercenaries pull out all the stops and pull off a win against the Marlboros by ONLY 1 POINT.

Well I suppose I don't have to worry about Blitzball again until after my uni finals at least Loved the results though, I didn't think the Mercs had it in them this time, they were just performing so poorly in the League that I thought their team strategy had fallen behind the curve. Good to see them still able to cause upsets! I have no excuses though, all of my top players were well-rested this time and they just couldn't pull out a win when it mattered. Oh well!

A little early, but meh, I'm awake at 11:30 at night and I have the line-ups. So now, we move into...the finals!
**********Tournament 3 Stamina**********
Mercenaries Lani=6 Amarant=7 Ba'Gamnan=8 Gafgarion=5 Tseng=10 Elena=10 Rude=1 Worker 8=7
Nightshades Blank=10 Illua=7 Fujin=2 Chime=10 Mira=2 Llednar=1 Reno=1 Desch=8
The Mad Experiments Odine=8 Hojo=10 The Mask=2 Kuja=8 Celes=10 No. 288=8 Deling=5 Julius=0
Highwind Diamonds Shara=8 Angeal=10 Vincent=10 Wakka=7 Biggs=1 Macgregor=4 Guinness=1 Rin=2
*****Results*****
MRC vs NS: It looks like the Mercs only came for the big upset of the tournament. After that, they tapped out. The Shades pretty much stomped 'em, just like in league. Was neck-and-neck for a bit, but the Shades had the win most of the game.
TME vs DMD: Now THIS was an exciting match! It was very back and forth and was tied up until within thirty seconds of the buzzer. Then, whatever the heck a "The Mask" is put the ball in the net and locked in the victory. Rin tried his best to tie it up, but it didn't work out.
And so, for the first time in a tournament, we have the same player in the finals against himself! Good job, Gabe! Pretty much a win-win for you, eh? Last game of the season, might as well just put in the best and let 'em duke it out!
Meanwhile, the Mercs will take on the Diamonds for the bronze! Games will be simmed Wednesday!

DMD vs TME was a hard-hitting brawl. The first quarter was a smash fest, having only one goal actually scored by Wakka. The stars lined up for him as he had a high stat roll, a solid shot bonus, and a goalie bonus to SHT.
The second quarter was much quicker paced, with The Mask and Rin having a shoot-off.
Close game, but victory to The Mad Ex.

With this Season coming to a close, what are the rules for signing new players and allocating stats and such?
|
|
|
Post by Bob on May 15, 2014 20:47:10 GMT -8
The Tournament is over! Results to follow, as with spoilers of said results!
The battle for third place: Mercs vs Diamonds. The Mercs played the newbie team and...well, the game was pretty one-sided. Mercs just weren't in it, giving the Diamonds the third-place finish. Good job, guys!
The battle for first: Shades vs Experiments, aka Wyvern v Wyvern. The Experiments were first on the board with their point. Unfortunately for them, that was their only point, as the Shades then went on to take three uncontested points (or...maybe two? Their first one WAS the contested point against Experiments...or something...I dunno). The Shades, who started off the league very poorly, figured their stuff out about mid-season, too late to take any titles in the league, but in time to take the gold in the tournament. Good job, Shades, and good job on the silver, Experiments! Hell, let's just say good job to Wyvern!
Next season, characters will be level 40.
Marlboros and Bears only get 1 character reboot (all stats cleared). Missiles, Shades, and SubMags get 2. The rest get 3.
Rules for stat allocations: Players get an additional 5 levels to modify their stats. Only characters getting the team's "reboot" can delete existing stats and the number each team gets are listed above (they're chosen based on league standings). Things like risk and type bonuses may be changed on any characters without requiring a reboot.
If you are "signing a new player," then you must either use an existing character's stat base (basically giving an old character a new name), or you can remove a character and use one of your team's reboots to design this new character. Essentially, you can't sign new players, you just rename them and redesign them if your team has the available reboot(s). Please announce all changes on the League #7 thread to follow soon. For example:
Butz has become Faris Boco has been remade Reina has been replaced by X-Death
(First being an example of a rename, second being an example of a reboot, third being an example of a replacement/reboot).
