Results!
I'll start with the least important games, then build up to the most important.
TME vs MAG: Both in positions that can't get top three, but important to get good seeding for the tournament, so here it goes! The first half was an even match. TME scored, MAG scored right back. But the second half wasn't so kind to TME, who lost three points straight. Win goes to the Missiles, putting them at an even record of 2-5 in the league! And going to goal differentials, the advantage goes to TME with a -14 GD, versus MAG's -23.
MAR vs MRC: Equally unimportant is MAR vs MRC. The Marlboros will keep the first place victory unless the Mercs dominate them by like, a LOT of points. Since they probably won't, here we go! The Marlboros came out strong, taking a quick 4-2 lead. It all looked bad for the Mercs until they staged one hell of a counterattack, getting three points straight in the second half, defeating the Marlboros in league, keeping them from a flawless season! The Grizzly Bears have a chance to take first, they just have to beat SM7...by like, six points. But hey, it COULD happen...right?
NS vs DMD: Not such an important match for the Shades, but a VERY important one for the Diamonds. The Shades are last in the league no matter what, but they can keep the Diamonds from cracking the top three, so here we go! Angeal was first to put up a point. Then the second point. And third. And fourth. Yeah, Angeal kinda slaughtered 'em. Illua and Reno got a couple shots in there, but Angeal took the whole match. Sorry, Shades, you couldn't put a point on the board in league, but let's see how you do in the tournament! You won last time, despite a poor league performance, so we'll see!
GB vs SM7: Potentially the biggest game, but really, it was a combination of several games that were important. When it comes down to it, GB needs to win by a lot to take first, SM7 needs to win by a lot to take third. With both hoping for a slaughter, here goes! Tellah squeaks off a shot in the opening seconds of the game, looking like GB might actually get the slaughter they'd hoped for! But then, Seifer starts punking everybody. And then Auron gets involved. And then there was a Ballroom Blitz. The game was mostly a slugfest between Seifer and Auron. The Bears won it, but only by 3, so they will remain in second place.
And so, the league ends! Rich makes out with the first and third place team, while I keep the second.
Standings:
1st: Marlboro Mayhem 2nd: Grizzly Bears 3rd: Highwind Diamonds
Nice try, SubMags! Maybe the tournament will treat you better! Also, sorry if that wasn't the intended line-up, Count, but you had three on the bench and I assumed you misaligned a bit, so I put Edge as a forward and Edgar in goal. I don't think you wanted Edgar on the bench since 3 is enough stamina for a goalie to play the whole tournament and that's what he has now, so it didn't make sense to bench him (nor did it make sense for Edge to be in goal...).

Tournament is up: challonge.com/blitztournament07I didn't even need to change any positions. The brackets had each player in a different bracket by default. So...cool! Get me line-ups as soon as possible! Hoping to sim Wednesday!

Yeah, that sounds about right for my lineup Bob! The main thing was Jecht resting, as much as it pained him not be involved in the Grizzlies match. SubMags are going for gold!

In DMD vs Nightshades, it was a good game. I noticed a couple defenders got right up in Guinesses' grill, but were too freaked out by his zombie-ism that they couldn't make a shot.
With the MARbs versus the Mercs, the Mercs are back with a vengeance. Using a totally new play style -- setting their formation to rarely used Relay Formation -- they met the Marbs neck and neck in the first half. My hat goes off to my defenders, Rufus and Brother for not taking shit from anyone and stripping the ball from the Mercs' Offense.
I was really impressed by the last goal of the first half. Lani passed it to Rude and Rude relayed it to Tseng with little resistance. Goal!
Rude slam dunks to tie it back up at the beginning of the second half, burning the Marbs out. Only two goals scored in the second half, both for the Mercs, killing Marb's perfect season.

I'm actually impressed that the Highwind Diamonds did so well, they use a completely different strategy than the Mayhem does.
I also didn't think that any other formation worked except Center and Normal. I might try some of those out next time.

Yeah, Marlboro vs Merc was an intense round. Somehow, those Marlboros can stomp everybody, but those Mercs have screwed them out of a record and a title twice now!
Other formations work, but I believe Fleck and Wyvern were counting up win/loss ratios based on formation and found those two to have the best win ratio. All work, but never use Crescent. I think that one is still yet to win a single game. It's the "I give up" formation. I plan to modify or replace it someday. It's a cool formation, but doesn't gel with my program I guess.

Yeah, the Mercs just seem to know how to counter Marl's strategy. Do you look at past team positions and style and such to determine what formation and line-up to use?

I used to do that, but now I just consider teams in general. Lately, the popular thing is putting a power forward in the center position, so putting a strong defender there can sometimes counter that, which is partly what Lani did. I think the reason the Mercs stand a chance against the Marbs is that they have insanely high attack, which can counteract the insanely high endurance of the Marbs.

This tournament, I'm not going to ever use Center. I'm gonna experiment a little and see what the other formations have to offer. Hopefully it doesn't put a hole straight through my strategy.

I've also been rocking the strong center position with Seifer. He's a straight up bully, with terrible shooting skills but some excellent defensive stats. It puts more pressure on the forwards to to their jobs, but it's paid off this season with my (almost) top 3 finish for a change!

I like to put heavy hitter in the forward position sometimes, if I don't have enough attackers. But they have to have killer pass as well to get by the opponent's defenders.

Results:
MAR vs NS: The Shades were ready with the upset, just like last league/tournament where they placed low in league and then won the tourney! They opened with an awesome opener, Illua putting the first point on the board. Tidus fought back against their impressive defense and tied it up. Unfortunately for the Shades, he then did this another two times, putting the Marlboros at 3-1 at the half. Reno tried a buzzer beater, but it didn't work out. Illua got another point in the second half, but so did Tidus, leaving a 4-2 win for the Marlboros.
SM7 vs MRC: Lani and Seifer squared off at center, so you KNOW this is going to be a rough game. Jecht broke free and got the first half and when Gafgarion tried to copy him, he was stuffed by Edgar at the goal. Edge tried it, too, but also was denied by the goalie. There was a fight in the center, and then Edge got a point, solidifying their 2-0 victory. The Upset Kings go down in the first round and the SubMags move on!
GB vs MAG: The Bears took on the Magics and were in for quite the fight! Orlandu single-handedly held the lead against the onslaught of girls. Orlandu put on 3 points to take a 3-2 lead in the half, then finally got some help from Tellah in the second half. But those girls ain't done yet! With Rinoa adding to Vanille and Selphie's points, the girls only trailed by one...briefly. And then Orlandu got the ball and...well...yeah. Orlandu ended the game with 6 points by himself, so the Magics only pulling in 4 total just didn't cut it. Bears win 7-4.
DMD vs TME: The game begins with an awesome display from TME! They're going at it like pros, building a 19 SHT Bonus...before being taken down. They quickly get the ball back and begin the chain again! ...Only to lose it again. And then Seymour puts one in for the Diamonds. But the Experiments won't quit! They build an even BIGGER chain and THIS time put the ball in the net, courtesy of Deling! Rin puts another one in the goal to follow up, keeping the Diamonds ahead at the half. The second half is INTENSE! Back and forth, a blocked shot by No. 288...man, it was a good effort by both sides. But with nothing scored in the second half, the Diamonds win 2-1 and advance to the next round.
Sorry, Gabe, the upsets didn't come this time. There's always next time though!

Much like my tears, the upsets just didn't come...
Props if you got that I was vaguely alluding to AD. Anyway, I've got what, three full rebuilds each? Last time I didn't rebuild a single character for the first and last time. Spoiler alert: it didn't work. Not one bit. Good games, Rich... I'll deal with you on Saturday.

Three each, yes. It's all based on league standings, so you get the max.
Also: "Taste the sad!"
