This is the first tournament for Blitzball. It is partly a test to see if the team 1 bias still exists (if it ever did...maybe it was all coincidence? *shrug*) and also so that people can understand how a tournament will work. I found a website that I am demoing as well. It might work well. It allows you to set up tournament brackets. It even has sign-up options, so maybe in the future we'll all sign up and add our names to tournaments or something. It seems cool. Allows for single and double eliminations, round-robin, good stuff like that. So follow this link to see who'll play whom! challonge.com/blitzdemotournamentI'll sim results later tonight and we'll have our first round completed! Good luck, everybody! ...is what I'd say if this were real, but I'm saving my good stuff for the real thing.

IGNORE WHAT YOU SAW!
But umm, the good news? I solved the riddle of the Team 1 bias. So I think we have a working program now! Thank goodness for ol' Loveless. Mr. Fleck sure knows how to find us some bugs. The fact that Loveless was all HIGH risk solved the problem. I realized that all of Loveless was shooting always. See uhh, the goalies were often being read-in as having a CA of 1.
Why? Not logic, but a programming error. Same one we had before. The cursor wasn't being reset to the top. And, again, I have no idea why it was working for my teams better than for all of yours, but now it seems to work. So, pending this tournament test, we will potentially have a working program! Huzzah!
And Count: Yeah, sorry, those results are being re-simmed. Sorry. But yes, both your teams won initially, but that was largely because of huge errors and the fact that both of your teams were Team #1. But good luck in the re-sim that I'm doing now-ish.

The first round has been simmed! You can find the results here: forum.goatpen.org/Blitzball/DemoTournament/Round1The tournament standings have been updated here: challonge.com/blitzdemotournamentAnd...dare I say, it looks like that one teeny error was causing all this hassle! I THINK we have a program, folks! A 2-2 split for Team 1 vs Team 2, plus the big victories happened on both sides. I think we've got it! And everybody except me has a team through to the next round! (Come onnnn, Thieves 'n Mercs in Round 2!) I'll sim the next round...probably Wednesday. Let me know before then if you'd like me to use a different line-up. EDIT: By the way, Count, I don't think I've mentioned this, but you CAN use spaces in names now. Pretty much everything except pipes "|" so I've included a space in Cid Highwind's name.

Cheers, Bob-man! A bit sad to see that SM7 didn't even score one goal against Loveless this time round, but they've always been the team to beat! Good luck to Thieves 'n Mercs next round! We all need that one fleeting moment of glory!

Wait, Loveless is supposed to be all LOW risk. They are a cautious people. Is that what you meant to say, Bob?
Also, Count, don't feel too bad about losing this round. My two teams are designed to help weed out if the HIGH/LOW risk options are OP. If Loveless and/or Guests Who do too well, we might have to considered tweaking the numbers.

Oh...huh. Low then, I guess. But...I don't know if that makes sense with how I found the error! I found the error because Genesis was shooting, but if it's Low Risk, then that fucker should NEVER shoot. I'll...look over my numbers again. I sure hope High and Low aren't backwards. That'd be...lame.
I found the error because Genesis was shooting. Not only that, but shooting from farrrr away. Since the ball loses 20% speed in the water, his 1 SHT quickly went to 0, then 0, then 0, and so on. So when it reached Edgar in goal, NORMALLY his -10 or whatever CA would bring the SHT total to -10ish, which means nobody in their right mind would shoot, but Genesis was still shooting...because 0-1 = -1, which High risk people would say "Psh, a fluke, I can still make it." So the fact that Genesis, a supposed LOW risker, was still shooting makes me very eager to make sure by Round 2 that High and Low aren't backwards.

Going by the test output for the Loveless/SM7 game, I don't think they're swapped. Generally, my team only seemed to take action when they had a had a strong chance of succeeding. Not a lot of dropped passes or missed shots (unless they were blocked). I'll keep an eye on the next round and see if I notice anything off.

The second round has been simmed! I moved a couple of the Round 1 matches into the Round 2 folder because they lined up as Round 2 on the challonge document, so it made things more consistent. These were pretty intense matches, too! Very close stuff!
Next round...Semi-finals! I'll sim that in the next day or two.

Oo, shit's getting tense!
I think that both my teams are going to drop to the same Juggernaut that is Loveless, but who knows? Blitzball's always been full of surprises.

I would hope not, because if Loveless is a juggernaut, it means something is wrong with the program. Although I am beginning to wonder if Center formation is too good and Wide too bad. We'll see.

Tournament is updated! I'll update the finals and the consolation positions sometime tomorrow. I've umm...kinda already simmed the whole tournament.
....What? It was really intense! I'll leave you all in suspense, but not for very long. A demo tournament shouldn't take more than a week anyway. I was going to space things out better, but...y'know. Got a bit sidetracked this week...

Hell of a comeback by Loveless there. Which is... odd, since I built them to be very similar to Original Loveless: high defense, low-scoring. Loveless has never been good at coming back from a deficit and I wasn't expecting them to be able to do any better. Also, we might have to take a look at "LOW" risk, because Terra and Lightning were taking a lot of shots that weren't going through. I thought that they'd take fewer shots, but have more successes. Or are these the kind of numbers you were expecting, Bob?

I'm really thinking that HIGH and LOW are somehow reversed right now. I'll check.
