I know it's yet to be posted and I can't even read it tonight because of the sleepies (I has a case of them), but Fleck, you must know, I need your SSH. This week has been hell what with being sick, taking a day off due to that sickness, having my classes all messed up and behind from that day off, and a whole bunch of otherwise shit this week. Long story short: I can't wait for SSH tomorrow morning.
That is all.

Ask and ye shall receive. Ask Fleck, and ye shall receive TWICE of what you asked for!
Episode 6, Parts 1 AND 2, now online! Yeah, I know this isn't a surprise because I said this was going to happen a few days ago, but that's because I saw the future and knew that you would want another double update. It's all for you.
This is another unique episode, if I do say so myself. Early on, I worried that I'd end up repeating myself, especially in the middle episodes where nothing special is happening and there are no major twists (at least none planned in my notes beforehand). And yet, somehow, stuff keeps happening. Is it my sheer brilliance? Must be. Anyway, as the cast steadily shrinks, I'm finding more and more room for character development, so this is I think without a doubt the most character-y and atmosphere-y episode yet.
Also it has a fairly silly challenge. What sport can't be improved by adding guns? I defy you to give me an example.
GET WELL NOW, BOB!

None, that's the answer! And clearly the makers of a PS1 sports game I bought way back when (and I don't like sports games) thought the same thing, when they made Dead Ball Zone, which I can only describe as indoor American Football with guns. And chainsaws. Actually, just imagine American Football was played by Warhammer 40K Space Marines and that's pretty accurate.
I was shit at it, mind. My team had usually been exterminated before the end bell.

It's a psychobilly freakout!
Oh... no... wait... it's an SSH update. Sorry, my bad. They look so similar from a distance.
Just one this week again. I was originally hoping to have another double update, but things happened in the real world, and then SSH itself stalled out for awhile. I almost didn't finish this update in time (just finished editing an hour ago, my closest finish since the early days of SSH). Long story short, there was an argument between me and my notes, then an argument between me and my dice (stupid cube-shaped pieces of plastic!). So yeah, things got delayed. Also, I'm running into problems because I'm getting new ideas for the way I should be handling things, especially challenges. This leads to complications because my notes are structured one way, but my ideas require me changing my notes. I have to be careful when I edit my notes and make changes, because I don't want to accidentally bias anything towards one cult or another. All in all, Episode 7 has been a pain so far, but I'm still optimistic about having a double update next week.
Hopefully you like the TWEESTS in Part 1.

I'd find it hard to be restrained when it came to letting the dice and stuff work out challenges for me. I could probably be unbiased, but I wouldn't be able to resist making one of the teams win at a certain time if it meant I could progress the story in a way I wanted to.

(MINOR SPOILERS)
Yeah, Episode 7 has been particularly trying in that regard. I spent about three or four days wondering if I should change the results to make the story work better, but just recently I figured out a way to still make the story interesting no matter what happens. At least, I hope it will still be interesting. We'll see.

No no no, don't change results for story! ....is my personal opinion. I go through the same stuff with AFFR though. Something will happen and I'll argue with random.org, but I have to stick to the results it gives me. This is largely why in Season 3 I started doing some random, some chosen, since some things just don't make a ton of sense. My strongest team really shouldn't lose in a rock-lifting challenge, y'know? So I converted to a more DnD "saves" style of random. "Okay, Mr. Tough lifts the rock, no problem. Now roll to see if he slips on a banana peel and drops the rock on his foot. 1 in 10 chance and.....nope!"
But yeah, I read Ep. 7 (SPOILERS FROM HERE ON!)
....and as much as I wanted to see Brookhaven take it, I'm glad they didn't. It would've been too...I dunno. Predictable, I guess? It's really time for them to make a come back, but can't force the comeback. To me, that's what makes writing reality TV fan fiction fun. It's why reality TV is so addicting--you can't predict it. If I wrote a TV show about a bunch of people on an island and people slowly left the island and.........fuck, I'm describing a successful TV show. Stupid Lost! But seriously, if you write a show about people on an island doing stupid challenges like standing on a pole on the coast of a beach, it'd be dumb. But now put real people out there where unpredictable things can happen and suddenly it's captivating.
....I'm drawing this out too much. Let's simplify to "I agree" and "Good part one!" I like the tweest, too. Mmm multiple eliminations. Always fun.

Yeah, I'm going with what the dice tell me, but it's not always easy, ya know? Like, for instance, I was upset about both the Elle elimination and the Brookhaven loss. Elle has been one of my weaker characters throughout the show, but she was just starting to grow on me. And technically, because of Kaufmann's injury reducing his stats, Elle had just as much of a chance at surviving the duel as he did, it's just that the dice favored Kaufmann. And Brookhaven almost won that challenge, and were considerably in the lead (and Vincent and Douglas had great stats for their part of the task)... but then James missed the wrench and lost the challenge. Pretty much every single one of the last few challenges have been very winnable for Brookhaven, but holy crap do my dice hate hate hate Brookhaven. It's freaky. So that's why I was arguing with my dice. I was explaining to my dice the concept of "probability" and how they were violating it.
"Dice... do you know how improbable it is for Kaufmann to roll doubles exactly when he needs to? Granted, it's not impossible, which is why I'm not accusing you of witchcraft, but I'm still keeping my eye on you." For an idea of how improbable Kaufmann's victory was, calculate the odds of rolling snake eyes in three rolls or less. I've never taken a stats class, but I assume that's pretty damn improbable. Yet, somehow, he did it.

Aha! I shall! Probability of rolling it in one roll would be 1/36 (1/6 * 1/6). But since we have three rolls, we'll instead take the inverse and say that the first roll was NOT snake eyes, which is 35/36.
Yadda yadda yadda, Bob is going to teach all of this within the year and isn't that great at it, but we'll take that inverse, take it to the nth power (in this case 3 for within 3 turns) and subtract it from 1 (100%).
1 - (35/36)^3
1 - 42875/46656
0.081039951989026063100137174211248 or 8.1%

MathBob to the rescue! Algrebra is nice and simple, but my probability knowledge isn't quite so good, if it involves testing something multiple times. Sad to see Brookhaven lose, I'm surprised James failed on his riddle/algebra though (not sure if they were ALL algrebra questions or not), he must have had a bad dice roll. I like how you managed to make Heather fail at getting the right wrench without making her look stupid though But holy balls that challenge would have destroyed me Not only am I a bad swimmer, but I have a form of Renault's Disease, which means that I have really small veins in my limbs and appendages, resulting in lower circulation. I suffer from cold more, and the muscles in my fingers and toes lock up when they get cold Needless to say, I SUCK at snowball fights XD Luckily, we're having the hottest October on record in the UK right now, good times! I hope Brookhaven win the next one, although it would be a lot more interesting with Alchemilla having to vote off two. They'll probably just get rid of their black sheep Mary if they lose this one.

Count: Move to California. We get snow like, maybe once every 3-5 years. Growing up, there was a 12-year long pattern of "snow once every four years." Not exactly 4 years like down to the month and date, but like, we had a snow day in 2004, 2000, 1996, or something like that. In CA, there's no such thing as Renault's Disease!
Hmm, maybe, but I think Mary wouldn't be the weakest link. I'd say they'd go after Dahlia or Claudia first, although they ARE keeping Alchemilla's puzzle-solving team ahead of the game, so maybe. Hmm. It'll definitely be interesting to see what happens with the second elimination. Mary probably IS the smartest choice for Alchemilla, seeing how they keep on winning.
BTW, not that it matters, Fleck, but is there a special theme for this day? Like the ghosts, fog, or bird-thing attacks?

Damn, you got it good! We used to get it every couple of years, but we've had it every year for about the last 5 or 6 years. And for prolonged periods.

I was going to have another theme/attack thing, but with the double elimination/double challenge, it would have crowded the episode if I had a full-scale attack as well, so this episode's theme is the ash. Like the fog episode, it doesn't play much of a factor, but if I didn't have anything at all, then both cults would be all paranoid and expecting an attack.
Also, Count, lucky you didn't grow up where I did. Up north, it's always winter (never Christmas). I have literally seen snow in every month of the year except June, July, August, and September. Just this year, when I went up to visit in early May, there was still a considerable amount of snow on the ground. All that "April showers, May flowers" nonsense doesn't apply where I'm from. Things are a lot more tolerable down here in Milwaukee, so yeah.... screw the north.
Also, I'm not sure if I made it clear enough, but if Alchemilla loses the next challenge, they'll only have to eliminate one person. The "elimination" aspect this episode is composed of two eliminations, so having half immunity protects you from one half of the eliminations, i.e. one elimination. So Alchemilla is already safe from the first elimination and are now competing to see if they'll be safe from the second as well.
As far as I know, I am breaking all kinds of new ground with the half immunity and night-time challenge stuff. Take notes, Jeff Probst! I have ideas, man!

Oh right, I forgot about the ash. That works for a theme, I just forgot about it.
